Prior to law school, Beretta attended Wayne State University and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. She received her law degree from Cooley Law School at Western Michigan University and graduated Cum Laude.
At Cooley, she was very involved in the Cooley Innocence Project, where she helped assess post-conviction investigations and legal assistance for client eligibility. She also assisted in presenting cases to the Michigan Attorney General Conviction Integrity Unit.
Beretta earned a certificate of Merit in Property, Research and Writing; Wills, Trusts and Estates and Evidence at Cooley and also served as a teaching assistant at the school. She and her husband also own several rental properties in Michigan.
