Sarah began her legal career during high school, working in her father’s law office. She continued that work during her undergraduate years at the University of Michigan.
During those years with her father’s office, she was exposed to many areas of the law, including criminal, real estate, family law, civil litigation, and estate planning. She also learned many practical skills which cannot be taught in school, such as how to be aggressive, while still being empathetic.
Sarah graduated with an undergraduate degree in accounting from the University of Michigan in 1990, while also competing on the track and field team.
After working in the finance department for a defense contractor, Sarah enrolled at the Detroit College of Law (DCL), and graduated cum laude in 1997 with a concentration in tax law.
While at DCL, Sarah interned for Michigan Supreme Court Justice Patricia Boyle. There, she gained invaluable experience through Justice Boyle’s requirement that interns experience many levels and areas of the law and courts first-hand and in person, and through writing case briefs and conducting extensive legal research.
Upon passing the Michigan bar exam in 1997, she went to work with her father again for 3 years before opening her own practice, which she ran as a solo practitioner for 21 years.
During her 24 years of practice, Sarah focused primarily on family law and landlord-tenant law. She successfully argued a custody appeal with the Michigan Court of Appeals in 2008.
After many years of collaborating with Paletz Law on a multitude of projects, Sarah came on board with Paletz Law full-time in March of 2021.
However, Sarah continues her work as a court-appointed Guardian Ad Litem for the Eaton County Probate Court, where she assists the Court in investigating petitions for guardianship and conservatorship of (and advocating for) legally incapacitated and developmentally disabled residents of Eaton County.
Sarah has also served as Chairman of City of Charlotte Zoning Board of Appeals; has served on the Eaton County Drain Commission Board of Review; been a Girl Scout leader for 6 years; volunteered for several years as her children’s elementary PTO treasurer; and was a member of Rotary Club International.
