Sydney E. Fontanilla
Associate Attorney
Sydney E. Fontanilla joined Paletz Law in February 2021 as a law clerk. She transitioned to an Associate Attorney in November 2022. Sydney practices in the areas of landlord-tenant law, creditor’s rights in bankruptcy, general civil litigation, and fair housing defense. Additionally, Sydney assists in handling the Firm’s abandoned title matters for manufactured homes in Michigan.
Prior to law school, Sydney attended Grand Valley State University where she earned a B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice. As an undergraduate, Sydney was an active member of her sorority, Alpha Sigma Tau, and held multiple leadership roles.
Sydney graduated from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in May 2022. During her time as a law student, she worked for the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office in the Child Abuse and Domestic Violence units where she assisted in drafting pleadings and attending court proceedings. Sydney also worked as a Student Clinician for the William Booth Legal Aid Clinic where she assisted clients in family law matters. Sydney earned a book award for her work as a Student Clinician at the William Booth Legal Aid Clinic for her advocacy skills.

Practice Highlights:
- Assisted Senior Attorney in successfully obtaining an order of possession of a residential rental unit on a highly litigious case involving a tenant who caused significant property damage and threatened other residents.
- Handled multiple cases to acquire title to abandoned manufactured homes.
- Successfully located titleholder of a mobile home who had not lived in the home for many years and worked with him to obtain a duplicate title, which was ultimately transferred to our client, thus avoiding litigation.
- Obtained an immediate order of eviction of a squatter who had taken residence in a manufactured home and who had been threatening other residents.
